Seasonal Hand and Body Lotion Suggestions
They type of hand and body lotion you buy should depend partly on the time of year you are shopping. Our skin has varying moisturizing needs during warmer vs. colder months. It is important you shop for body lotion and hand lotion products that will work well regardless of the season. Fortunately there are multiple products specially formulated to accommodate our skin's needs year round.

Hand and Body Lotions For Cold Months
During the cold winter months you probably go through more hand and body lotion than at any other time during the year. This is partly because the air tends to be drier during colder months, lifting moisture from our skin. Harsh winds can also contribute to dry skin. Fortunately with the right hand and body lotion products you can breeze through the winter months with glowing and well-hydrated skin.

During the cold months of the year you should select products with rich ingredients that will penetrate the skin and provide a protective layer from the wind and sun. Don't think for a minute that you can buy body lotions without sun protection just because the weather has turned cold. You can still get sunburned in the winter, so look for products that contain some sun protection. You won't need as much as in the summer obviously, but a little can go a long way toward preserving your skin's elasticity.

Good choices include lotions that contain ingredients like petroleum or glycerin. These ingredients are particularly good for hand creams and foot lotions because they not only provide a protective barrier from wind but also help soften dried calluses and chapped hands.

You should also consider covering your hands and feet in socks or gloves immediately after moisturizing. This will help keep skin satiny smooth throughout the winter. Also remember to leave your legs, hands and arms a little damp before applying moisturizer. This works well for facial moisturizers as well. The damp droplets left behind will absorb more easily into the skin.

You should also consider keeping a light hand moisturizer or hand lotion near the sink. Colds and flu are commonplace in the winter and most people tend to wash their hands more frequently to avoid getting sick. Unfortunately the more you wash your hands the drier they will get. You can easily solve this beauty problem however by applying a small dab of moisturizer after every wash. Avoid thick lotions or body creams, as these will take too long to penetrate your skin while in a hurry. Something light and airy like Lubriderm lotion will work just fine for hand washings.

Hand and Body Lotion For Warmer Months
During warmer months you want to invest in hand and body lotions with adequate sun protection. Even if you have naturally oily skin it is important you use a daily moisturizer or sun protection. Just look for products that are light and nongreasy. Like our faces our bodies often produce more oil during the summer too, so if you typically use heavy creams during the winter switch to a lighter formula or lotion during the summer. During the warmest months you can apply light lotion to the driest areas of your skin and leave the rest for the time being. Some lotions are specially formulated to provide a luminescent shimmer during the summer. You can also find moisturizing products that contain bronzer to help give your skin a tanned appearance.

Because the air is more humid in the summer, this is a good time to incorporate hand and body lotions that contain hydroxy acids or other anti aging components. They are less likely to irritate sensitive skin during the summer. You can also apply these products to scaly patches on the skin, common on knees and elbows for example. Try exfoliating first and then applying a heavier body lotion or scrub a few times every week.

Remember regardless of the time of year you deserve to look and feel your best. Selecting the right hand or body lotion is the first step toward silky, shimmering skin year round!
