Selecting Fitness Equipment For Your Workout
Fitness equipment falls into many different categories, including health monitoring equipment, cardiovascular equipment and strengthening or toning equipment. Before infesting in any form of fitness equipment you should decide what you fitness goals and needs are.

If you are just starting a fitness routine for the first time you should start out slow. Chances are you won't need to invest 10k into your home gym. You also want to be certain you are comfortable in your routine before buying a lot of supporting fitness equipment. One way to try before you by is to check out your local recreation center. Here you'll find a world of machines and other forms of exercise equipment at your fingertips. You can try some on for size before deciding what items you would like to use in your home gym.

This will also give you an idea of what types of equipment will not work for you. Nothing is worse than investing in a piece of exercise equipment that just sits in the corner gathering dust. Fortunately with a little planning and experimentation you'll be able to find the perfect fitness equipment for your home gym!

Cardiovascular Fitness Equipment
Cardiovascular fitness equipment sells much faster than any other equipment. Undoubtedly you've tried at least one or two exercise machines you've liked in the past. Some like the idea of cardio equipment because they can work out, read and watch television or some combination of these activities at the same time. Here is some of the more commonly used cardiovascular fitness equipment:

  • Treadmills
  • Elliptical Trainers
  • Rowing Machines
  • Exercise Bicycles
  • Stair Climbers
  • Stair Steppers
Do you have to invest a lot of money to get a good exercise machine? Not necessarily. You can often find refurbished equipment that works just as well as new equipment. Most refurbished exercise equipment also comes with a warranty. Many gyms offer refurbished treadmills, elliptical trainers and other pieces of equipment when they get a new shipment in of newer models. These pieces are often the best quality and offered at a reasonable price.

Don't forget to try something out before you buy. You don't want to spend a lot of money on a stair climber only to find you can't stand it once you buy it. The three most popular exercise machines are the treadmill, elliptical trainers and stationary bikes. Treadmills are great for anyone who wants the option of running, jogging or walking. Most allow you to vary your routine periodically so you won't get bored. Exercise bikes are perfect for someone who wants a lower body workout and who prefers to read or watch television while working out. Elliptical trainers provide a total body workout in most cases, and thus surpass even treadmills in popularity. As an added bonus they are also easy on the knees and in many cases compact and affordable.

Other Fitness Equipment and Accessories
Not interested in cardiovascular fitness equipment? You do have many other choices. Here is a brief list of other popular fitness accessories and exercise machines:
